Planning Council

Child Welfare Services (CWS) Redesign refers to efforts statewide and locally to improve CWSFamily service systems and delivery. The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and stakeholders recently completed over two years of research, workshops and planning to develop a CWS Redesign conceptual framework to guide services well into the 21st century.

The Social Services Agency (SSA) has begun implementing specific CWS Redesign strategies to achieve better outcomes for children. There is a renewed emphasis on prevention, diversion, earlier intervention, alternate response, improved permanency options and increased accountability for CWS systems. Stakeholder and community involvement in CWS Redesign is essential for success.

The CSCC consists of public and private agencies responsible for identifying gaps and barriers in the service system and recommending collaborative programs to better serve at-risk children and their families. The Planning Council works to bring together existing and new stakeholders to facilitate CWS Redesign implementation and serve in an advisory capacity to the CSCC

The purpose of this Planning Council includes:

  • Expanded outreach, communication with and inclusion of community leaders in the development of strategies around child abuse prevention and intervention efforts.
  • Advise on all aspects of CWS Redesign implementation.
  • Advise on Family-to-Family Initiative and Resource Development
